The University of Arizona Department of Pediatrics and Banner Children’s – Diamond Children’s Medical Center welcome new faculty members Daniel Combs, MD, and Rajan Senguttuvan, MD.
Dr. Combs, assistant professor, joined the Division of Pulmonology, Allergy and Immunology. He specializes in pediatric sleep medicine and works with children with a variety of sleep disorders, including sleep apnea, narcolepsy, circadian rhythm disorders and insomnia. Additionally, Dr. Combs interprets pediatric sleep studies and is working with the Banner – University Medical Center Tucson Center for Sleep Disorders to establish a pediatric sleep laboratory on campus.
Dr. Combs conducts research on the cognitive and behavioral impact of sleep disorders in children with chronic disease, particularly the impact of sleep apnea on children with congenital heart disease. He also has worked on developing a sleep apnea screening tool for general pediatricians, and evaluated the role of sleep in Hispanic and Caucasian children as a contributing factor to health disparities. Dr. Combs completed his MD, pediatrics residency and a fellowship in pediatric sleep medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson.
Dr. Senguttuvan, assistant professor, joined the Division of Endocrinology. As a pediatric endocrinologist, he will take care of children with type 1 diabetes and other endocrine disorders at Diamond Children’s and Banner – University Medical Center Angel Wing for Children with Diabetes.
His research interests are in type 1 diabetes and bone maturation studies in children. He currently is participating in type 1 diabetes research, including the NIH-funded TrialNet study.
Dr. Senguttuvan earned his medical degree from Vinayaka Missions Kirupananda Variyar Medical College & Hospital (Salem, India), and completed his pediatrics residency at Lincoln Medical & Mental Health Center (affiliated to the Weill Cornell University). He then joined the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson to complete a fellowship in pediatric endocrinology.
