Dr. Keith Hazleton Joins the UArizona Department of Pediatrics and Banner-University Medical Center Tucson Campus

Keith Hazleton, M.D., Ph.D., will provide pediatric care to children at the Banner-University Medical Center in the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition

Dr. Hazleton joined the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition as an assistant professor. He will provide pediatric services for children at the Banner-University Medical Center in the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition. He is the only pediatric hepatologist in Southern Arizona.  

Dr. Hazleton received his medical degree and Ph.D. from The Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, NY. He completed his residency in pediatrics and fellowships in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition and pediatric advanced transplant hepatology at the Children’s Hospital Colorado/University of Colorado School of Medicine in Aurora, CO. He is board certified in general pediatrics and pediatric gastroenterology.

His research includes studying the affects of diet on the gut microbiome. Specifically, how a Western-style diet effects C. difficile infection and nutritional status in cystic fibrosis. He has published 11 peer-reviewed articles and is continuing his research in Tucson.

“Coming to Tucson offers me a really unique opportunity as the only pediatric liver doctor in Southern Arizona. This will allow me to take care of a wide variety of children with Liver disease and intestinal disease from so many different places,” said Dr. Hazleton. “Additionally, the strong research program at the Steele Children’s Research Center is allowing me to continue my exciting research.”
