This fund is in memory of Ian Jongewaard, PhD, a young researcher focused on research in congenital heart defects. Taken from us too soon, this fund will support fueling research for other promising young scientists.
What is a Congenital Heart Defect ? A congential heart defect is when something is wrong with the heart's structure at birth. Given the complexities of the heart, there are dozens of different types of defects. Some are immediately life threatening while others may remain silent and undetected until well into adulthood. Early screening may save a precious life. Modern medicine has taken great strides with the care for congenital issues.
